Can Lledo

You are spoilt for choice with beaches on the Costa Brava, but we have listed some of our favourites. The nearest beaches are approx 30 minutes away from Can Lledo and ones further north such as Empuries are an hour.

Many beaches have seafront restaurants or restaurants nearby, or you can buy baguettes on the beach. If you are visiting out of season it might be worth taking a picnic.

Sant Pol

Lovely beach with rocky outcrops gives Sant Pol a Costa Brava sort of feel. Sant Pol de Mar is the closest beach to Can Lledo and is a nice little village on the beach with fishermans' cottages. Good for the children to play and fun to watch the boats. If you like good food, then book a table at the 2 star Michelin restaurant Restaurant Sant Pau owned by Catalan star chef Carme Ruscalleda i Serra and her husband Toni Balam.

Aigua Blava

It is small, which provides a charming intimate feel allowing you to feel like you're really getting away from it all. There is a restaurant on the beach and it is a great place for a picnic.

Aigua Blava is 45 minutes drive away.

Sant Marti D’Empuries

Sant Marti is a longer drive from Can Lledo, but well worth the effort. This is a large beach, so less worries with crowds in the high season and the calm waters make it perfect for swimming. A short walk around to the next cove reveals the vast Empuries beach, a great place for watersports that's popular with the kite surfing crowd. For lunch there are beach huts for sandwiches and some good restaurants a few minutes walk in the picturesque town of Sant Marti.

Sant Marti is a 55 minute drive away.

Slightly larger than Aigua Blava is Tamariu. The sand is fine, the water is clear and the nearby amenities are top notch, with a few watersports available, welcoming restaurants and charming boutiques lining the promenade. Good parking facilities and a small walk to the beach. Definitely one for a lunch trip with a short sunbathe either side.

Tamariu is 45 minutes drive away.

Llafranc port is picturesque and there's plenty of space for children to play. You can be sure to find many fine restaurants along the promenade meaning that what started out as a 'couple of hours sunbathing' can easily extend into the evening.

Llafranc is 45 minutes drive away.

Platja de Pals

The golden sands of the Platja de Pals extend for 3.5km around the sweep of a bay. It’s popular with the sporty set with most watersports available but can get crowded near the entrance. If you’re prepared to walk for 100m or so in either direction you’ll usually find quieter areas. The beach slopes gently and the sea is very good for swimming. There are stands renting out wind surfing equipment and kayaks. Take a picnic.

Platja de Pals is 45 minutes drive away.

Sa Riera

Small sandy cove north of Aigua Blava, with beautiful views of the Medes islands. Can get very crowded in the high season, but certainly one of the most picturesque coves in the area.
